My Sister-In-Law told me a funny story about the above saying, "Time began in a garden...". She and her friend were taking care of the landscaping at the church. They kept asking the pastor to make the landscaping part of the budget. They were supplying everything and they really wanted to be able to do more. After asking several times with no real response, my Sister-In-Law told the pastor that he needed to remember that time began in a garden. Just as quick he looked back at her and told her, "So did sin!" *SMILE*

We were so excited about our gardens when we moved to Ohio. It was really hard to organically garden in Florida. There were too many bugs, too many fungi, and too little soil. Here it is a totally different story. We planted some flowers, lots of herbs and lots of vegetables. We have a grape arbor, 4 apple trees (small) and a peach tree that doesn't do all that well. We also planted 2 plum trees last year. We have blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, and rhubarb. There is a nice size asparagus patch out back as well. The herb garden has not done as well at this house as it did at the last, but we are not giving up. We are hoping to put in a raised bed or two for herbs this year. We like to fill our kitchen cabinet and our medicine cabinet with herbs from our garden.

One of our best tools we got to help in our garden, was the Mantis tiller. It is small and lightweight, but a power house. It really helps keep up with the weeding and is small enough to get in most places. Marci can easily carry it where it needs to go. We are an affiliate with the company because we really believe in their product and have recommended it to friends and family. If you click on any of the links below, and purchase an item through them, we will get credit for them. We are trying to get debt free to bring Michael home to farm full time or at least more part time than he can now. I am also putting a link for the compost tumbler. I hope to have one of these one day. They make beautiful rich compost in a very short time. I know a couple of people who have them and have seen the results.

We will take any advice that you master gardeners out there have. Marci has a sister-in-law who has a beautiful yard. It all looks very natural more like a cottage garden. We are hoping she will help us plan the flowers. (HINT HINT DEBBIE!!!) Everything has done really well. We are so thankful to God for the abundant harvests he has given us. We have had to buy peaches and apples to put up. Hopefully one day we will get them from our own trees, although with us planning a move again, we will have to replant if the property does not have any. We planted garlic last fall. It has already come up this year and it looks great.

We have to figure a way to keep the chickens and the dogs out of our garden this year. We had a fence that I liked, but my guys didn't like it. Also, we were able to share a large tiller that goes behind a tractor with some friends. The fence was in the way for that. I would love to do a picket fence and then have a couple of sections removable or something. Picket fencing is VERY expensive though. We shall wait and see what happens. I keep praying we find a solution. Once the plants are bigger, the animals can't really do that much damage, but when they run across the baby plants, it leaves a path of destruction. One of our cows got out one year and ran through the garden. Sigh...

I have had some people ask if we would ever do a CSA. I don't think that is going to be in our future. The sweet corn we plant is the best we have ever tasted. It is so sweet and tender. Everyone who tasted it wanted to know what kind it was. Even the corn we froze gets comments when we have guests over. It was a Japanese hybrid called Mi Rai.

We do love email, but we are receiving a large amount of SPAM some of which is quite nasty. So, if you would like to email us, you will need to use this address:
